Maharajah of Indore Reading Chair
The original library chair was designed by Eckart Muthesius. At the age of 25, at a garden party in London in 1929, the German architect met the young Maharajah of Indore, who spontaneously commissioned him to build and furnish his palace, Manik Bagh, from the doorknobs to the bathroom lamp - modern Western design language met traditional India. Muthesius had six of these fauteuils built for the palace, which today cannot be bought for less than 300,000 euros. But in 1989, a few of Muthesius' furniture designs were reissued, and this piece is from that series.
